SNSI® and its affiliated companies (“SNSI Organization” and “SNSI”) are committed to respecting the privacy of customers – including participants of the SNSI Organizations’ Training Programs and Experience (“SNSI Programs”), SNSI Organizations and SNSI media persons making inquiries, and visitors to the SNSI and SNSI Media websites scubasnsi.com, elearning.scubasnsi.com mysnsi.scubasnsi.com.
SNSI understands that your privacy is crucial to you, and is committed to respecting and protecting your personal data, which is any information that is capable of identifying you as an individual person. This Privacy Policy covers personal information that may be provided to or obtained by SNSI during such interactions and describes how it will handle and protect your personal data in connection with your interactions with SNSI, in its capacity as data controller. Specific to SNSI’s personal data privacy policies and security procedures, as noted in various specific portions of this Privacy Policy, SNSI is compliant with the privacy requirements and regulations of the EU’s General Data Protection Regulations (“GDPR”); the California Consumer Protection Act of 2018 (“CCPA”); and Canada’s Anti-Spam Law (“CASL”), as affects residents of the respective areas covered by those regulations.
Additionally, in relation to SNSI’s role as a data controller, SNSI Individual Professional Members and SNSI Dive Center Members may act as co-data controllers, as well as data processors on behalf of SNSI, especially within the SNSI Diver training and certification process. SNSI itself also serves as a data processor, such as when one of the SNSI Organization processes personal information on behalf of another SNSI Organization.
What personal data we collect and why we collect it
SNSI may also automatically collect information about the devices you use to interact with SNSI’s websites. The information automatically collected may include web browser, device identifier, IP address and browsing information collected through cookies, pixels, web beacons and other similar technologies (collectively “Cookies” and “Cookies and Other Tracking Technologies” ) on SNSI’s sites. SNSI may also automatically collect information about how you use the sites, such as what you have searched for and viewed. The information automatically collected will be associated with any personal data you have provided.

The personal data SNSI collects is used for SNSI’s business, legal and commercial purposes. Depending on applicable law in your area, that use may be limited to what your specific consent allows, or when SNSI has a legitimate interest or other legal basis for processing and using such information. In some situations, the collection of personal data may be required for the operation of the sites or to provide certain services or products. SNSI uses your personal data to fulfill your requests for information, process your requests to participate in training programs and other activities, evaluate and improve SNSI’s services, distribute safety alerts, newsletters, and diver training-related correspondence and materials to you, analyze the sites’ performance and functionality, prevent fraud, enforce SNSI’s various terms of service, comply with all applicable laws and corporate reporting obligations, enforce SNSI’s agreements and accomplish other purposes you may initiate or request. SNSI may keep any of your personal data on file and use it to contact you.
SNSI may use first and third-party Cookies and Other Tracking Technologies to manage its sites and its services, and to collect analytics about how you use them. The information provided throughout this Privacy Policy about Cookies also applies to these other tracking technologies. Cookies
If you leave a comment on any of our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Comments and Password Reset
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Sale Or Disclosure Of Personal Information
SNSI does not sell consumers’ personal information.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
The data collected for certification purpose are retained indefinitely.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on our site, or have left comments, or you are SNSI certified Diver you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
